An Insight Into The World Of Grand Theft Auto

Grand Theft Auto famously known as the GTA is a very popular game franchise created by David Jones and Mile Dailly. Developed by the Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games, it derives its name from the cases of motor vehicle thefts in the US.

It is an open world action adventure game which has a well sketched storyline. The player has the option to roam freely in the city and explore it or complete the storyline by embarking on missions that requires them to complete a specific set of objectives in order to move ahead along the storyline. Since the onset the games are set in fictional cities namely Liberty City, Vice City, San Andreas, Los Santos, Las Venturas amongst others which are supposed to be stand-ins for New York City, Miami , the state of California and other such cities.

Primitive versions of the game such as the Grand Theft Auto and the Grand Theft Auto: London, 1969 are 2D models whereas the GTA III brought the series to a 3D setting ensuring a more immersive experience. The growth curve of the franchise has been on an exponential rise ever since with the subsequent installments in the series such as the GTA Vice City, GTA San Andreas, GTA IV and the latest GTA V. The grand theft auto download is free of cost, and is available on torrents and on many other sites.

The GTA Vice City which was published in 2002, was the first of its kind to feature a talking protagonist. The game included cut-scenes before and after the completion of the mission allowing the player to fully make sense of whatever was happening along the storyline.

The next part in the installment called GTA San Andreas took the franchise to new heights by including character customization and bigger than ever map featuring three cities namely Los Santos ( based on Los Angeles), San Fierro( based on San Francisco) and Las Venturas (based on Las Vegas) and the surrounding area including a countryside and a desert. Character customization allowed the player to visit certain fashion stores around the map and choose the look for the protagonist (namely Carl Johnson) that suits him the best, making the open world aspect more realistic. Also apart from all the aspects mentioned, the San Andreas is believed to have the best storyline amongst all the other installments in the series. The story is well developed and the basic outline of the story being the protagonist’s quest to avenge the massacre of his family and to restore what was left of his brotherhood has a certain emotional aspect to it. Also plot twists, betrayals and revelations along the way makes it all the more engaging.

The next installment called GTA IV released for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in 2008 saw quite a few changes from the previous installments. Focusing more on realism and detail, various customization features were removed. The graphics of the game was one of the top aspects of this installment achieving new heights towards providing the player a better than ever immersive experience. The plot follows the life of Niko Bellic, an Eastern European who comes to Liberty City on the request of his cousin Roman. GTA IV also released two separate expansion packs called The Lost and Damned and The Ballad Of Gay Tony.

Its successor the GTA V brought along several changes with it too, most notable of which is the concept of 3 protagonists. Should the player decide to follow the storyline, he/she has to switch between the three protagonists called Michael, Franklin and Trevor, completing a series of mission before reaching the penultimate mission where one of the protagonist has to make a choice, depending on which the last mission would determine the fate of the other two protagonists. This installment also saw improvements in the graphics and the multiplayer section. On its release it was critically acclaimed and Metacritic assigned it a whopping 97/100 average score based on reviews from the PlayStation and Xbox users.

Multiplayer versions of the game has been available on the GTA San Andreas and later installments. The multiplayer versions are set in the same open world city as the single player version where different users can interact amongst themselves and embark on various missions. The multiplayer version has received critical acclamation from the users ever since its inception. And with each subsequent installments in the franchise it has seen various improvements along the way, each one making the game a more engaging and immersive experience for the users.

Though widely acclaimed, the franchise have had to deal with its fair share of controversies too. While Britain, Germany and France condemned it due to its “extreme violence”, Brazil went as far as to ban the game completely.

Another aspect of the game that has been controversial is the use of cheat codes. In the earlier installments such as the Vice City and San Andreas, a plethora of cheat codes was available on the internet which provided the player various unfair advantages like restoring health, getting armors, infinite ammunition, vehicle restoration, escaping the police and many more. The cheats made the missions easier and boring.

This issue however had been addressed in the later versions of the game where the protagonist is provided with a cellphone where he can type and activate the cheat codes, the only exception being that the cheat codes will be rendered inactive while on a mission. Otherwise while roaming in the free world, they are free to use the cheat codes as well. This ensured that the players who prefer using cheat codes were not completely disappointed while at the same time maintaining a certain standard for the gameplay.

In conclusion, it can be easily said that it is one of the fastest growing game franchisees and with each subsequent installment it has got only better. There has been a lot of speculations regarding the upcoming GTA 6, which city it would be set in, what new features would be added so on and so forth. While there hasn’t been any confirmation or any news from the makers we can only hope that the next version of the game would be bigger and better than ever and would mesmerize us with what it has on offer, like it has been doing since a long time.
